Rob Hughes: Prolific Seasiders midfielder returns down under
Cymru North leaders Prestatyn Town will be without their top scorer, Rob Hughes, for the remainder of the current season.
The midfielder, who has netted 18 goals in the league this term, will be returning to Australia for a second time to join National Premier Leagues Victoria outfit Melbourne Knights.
Hughes, 27, has previous experience of football down under from his time with Goulburn Valley Suns, who he played for in 2017.
The former Connah’s Quay Nomads man returned to play for the Seasiders – his boyhood club – last summer, as the Motion Finance Stadium side signalled their intent to mount a return to the Cymru Premier.
And he has certainly made an impact, with Neil Gibson’s side currently sitting nine points clear of second-placed Flint Town United, and looking destined to grace the top flight once more.
Speaking to Rhyl Journal on the move, Hughes said: “I’m really excited to be joining the club and to be back in Australia.”
The 2012-13 Welsh Cup winners expect Hughes, who won the competition with the Nomads in the 2017-18 season, to be back for the start of next season, when they hope to be competing in the top echelon of Welsh football.
