Aberystwyth Town: Phillips and Edwards depart Park Avenue
Joe Phillips and Ryan Edwards have become the latest two players to leave Aberystwyth Town.
Midfielder Joe Phillips, 25, has returned to former club Alvechurch, while Ryan Edwards has been allowed to sign for another JD Cymru Premier Club.
In 72 appearances, over two spells for the Black and Greens, Phillips netted 8 times and played a key part in Aberystwyth’s route to the 2018 Welsh Cup Final.
Despite scoring just once in 47 appearances for Matthew Bishop’s men, Edwards also had an integral role in his two seasons at the club.
The two midfielders join Alex Boss and Steffan Edwards in the list of January’s departures, while Adam Hughes and Tom Price upon the expiration of their loan deals, returned to The New Saints and Swansea City, respectively.
The void in midfield has been filled by new signings Ilan Hughes, Pavel Vieira and James Rowland, who all add to the competition to play in the middle of the park for the Seasiders.
Matthew Bishop also bolstered his defence with the signing of David Thompson from Bangor City.
The Seasiders have looked much more dangerous going forward of late, having scored four goals in their last two JD Cymru Premier fixtures.
Aberystwyth are reaping the benefits of signing two strikers in the window, with Alhagi Touray Sisay and Adam Davies joining.
Manager, Bishop, will also be buoyed by the news that midfielder Paulo Mendes has committed to the club by rejecting offers from other JD Cymru Premier sides.
Aberystwyth’s first game of the Second Phase will be away to Cardiff Met on the eighth of February.
