Joe Ledley: Former Wales midfielder linked to Newcastle Jets

Former Cardiff City midfielder Joe Ledley appears to be on the verge of joining up with his former Wales teammate Carl Robinson in Australia.

Ledley, who most recently played for Charlton Athletic in December, is currently a free agent and has been exploring his options as he looks to extend his career.

According to a report by the Newcastle Herald, Ledley has been approached by the Newcastle Jets’ technical director Kenny Miller and the 33-year-old will join the A-League outfit if a deal can be reached.

The move could see Ledley kick start his career under the guidance of manager Robinson, who will know how to get the best out of his former midfield partner.

Ledley has also shared two clubs with Miller during his career, albeit it at different times, as they both spent seasons with Cardiff City and Celtic.  If Ledley does make the move to Australia’s eastern coast it will be the first time the two have worked together directly.

Ledley’s career has seen him make over 400 appearances in Britain’s top leagues since he burst on to the scene with Cardiff City in 2004.  However, since he left Crystal Palace in 2017 the midfielder has only played 31 times in three seasons as he has found himself out of favour.

The Jets are no strangers to ailing former Premier League stars with Emile Heskey having spent two seasons at the McDonald Jones Stadium, before returning to the English Championship with Bolton Wanderers.
