Penybont claimed their first home league win since September as they defeated Cardiff Metropolitan 2-0 at the SDM Glass Stadium.

Daniel Jefferies and Lewis Harling scored in the first minute of each half to provide an injection of confidence into the Cymru Premier strugglers.

Rhys Griffith side have begun a mini winning run after defeating Aberystwyth in their last outing.

Penybont move ahead of Carmarthen who play Airbus tomorrow, whilst Met stay top of the Conference on the virtue of goal difference after they drew 2-2 with Aberystwyth.

The hosts were good value for their victory as they took their chances in an off colour evening for the Met.

From the kick-off, Penybont looked like a team full of desire as they earned an early corner.

From the resulting corner, they took the lead as Kane Owen’s cross caused problems, Daniel Jefferies headed the ball home in a congested penalty area.

The hosts were confident in possession and were looking fully committed to the cause.

Met were getting a few half chances blocked, as Eliot Evans and Kyle McCarthy tried to respond quickly to Jefferies’ opener.

It was Penybont though who looked the likelier of scoring the next goal though, with the hosts looking dangerous on the counter-attack.

Charlie Corsby almost levelled the game for Met, but Matthew Harris made an important block to deflect his shot away from goal.

Penybont almost had a chance for a second goal, as the referee looked to have played advantage, but he pulled it back as Emlyn Lewis claimed a head injury.

Lewis was booked for his pull on Borge, but Penybont will have felt aggrieved, given the position they were in.

They did have a glorious opportunity to make it two as a slick move was almost finished off by Nathan Wood as he shot wide of the post from close-range after a good interchange of play with Mikey George.

Inside a minute of the first-half, Penybont claimed a second goal.

This time, a lovely low ball into the box from Dan Griffiths found the influential Lewis Harling who held the ball up before turning to shoot into the low corner of Will Fuller’s goal.

Before the hour mark, Eliot Evans missed a great opportunity to claw one back. The ball dropped to him from close-range but he slipped as he tried to place it into the corner.

Ashley Morris spent a majority of the match untested, only having to gather for crosses as he commanded his area well.

A real summarisation of Met’s performance was Chris Baker firing over the bar, in what was a difficult evening for the Met.

Penybont were unchallenged by Met and held on for an important victory.
