Football Association of Wales suspend domestic season due to COVID-19 outbreak
The Football Association of Wales has suspended its domestic season following the COVID-19 outbreak.
They have adopted the same action Premier League, EFL and the SPFL who have all suspended their seasons until April 3.
All levels of domestic football in Wales has been suspended until April 4.
The Wales C fixture, scheduled to take place at Caernarfon Town’s The Oval on March 24, has also been cancelled.
A statement from the FAW read: “The Football Association of Wales has today (13 March) taken the decision to suspend domestic football at all levels in Wales with immediate effect until 4 April due to the COVID-19 outbreak.”
“The intention at this time will be to resume the football schedule depending on the medical advice and conditions from the relevant authorities at that time.
“The FAW is fully aware of the impact this will have on the domestic game but the health and safety of all fans, players, volunteers and stakeholders are of paramount importance.
“The FAW will continue to monitor this situation on a day-by-day basis and will continue to provide updates when appropriate.”
Public Health Wales confirmed 38 positive coronavirus cases in Wales: “We can confirm that 13 new cases have tested positive for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Wales, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 38.
“As of 12 March 2020, 945 people in Wales have been tested for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).”
Sporting leagues from around the world have suspended their seasons, as well as others such as the EIHL cancelling theirs altogether.
