Rhyl fans’ association launch £20k fundraiser to save crisis club from extinction
Rhyl fans today launched a £20k fundraiser to save the club from extinction.
In the same week that chairman Paul Higginson set an ultimatum of April 8 for an investor to come forward, the Rhyl Fans Association set up a gofundme page entitled “Save Rhyl Football Club”
Setting itself a £20k target, the Rhyl Fans Association said the fundraiser was set up to remove any barriers for contributors to help ‘towards the fight to save our club’.
In a statement on their GoFundMe page, the Rhyl Fans Association said: “Rhyl Football Club is a community-based club which includes teams of girls & boys, men & women ranging from academy level under-8’s to under-16’s, an under-19’s and first teams.
“All the academy teams play to a very high standard, not only representing us across Wales but also the north-west of England.
“These teams are heart of our community and at some point we all have an affiliation with our beloved club
“Current fixed running costs are approximately £5,000 per month, and with little to no income foreseeable over the coming months due to the suspension of all playing and communal fundraising activities, which the club is heavily reliant on, there is a real possibility that it will all cease to exist.
“We, the independent Rhyl Fans Association, have taken to social media in an effort to raise funds in the hope we can avoid losing our wonderful club.
“We are already accepting seat sponsorship and donations through or association treasurers account on Twitter and Facebook.
“We have decided to start a GoFundMe page to remove any barriers for contributions towards our fight to save the club.”
