Caerau Ely, Colwyn Bay, Llanelli Town and STM Sports face the prospect of relegation after their Tier Two Licence applications were rejected.
All four clubs had a deadline of April 30 to meet the criteria which is based on infrastructure and personnel criteria.
They now have ten days to issue an appeal to the FAW as they all seek to remain in their respective divisions.
Llanelli Town – a Cymru Premier club just two years ago – face a demotion unless they are successful.
A report from the North Wales Pioneer, however, says Colwyn Bay’s refusal was due to a ‘slight clerical error’ and expect it to be sorted on appeal.
There was good news however for Tier Three clubs who had applied for promotion.
Runaway leaders of the Welsh League Trefelin were granted the licence.
Caldicot Town, Goytre, Pontardawe Town, Port Talbot Town, Risca United, Ton Pentre and Risca United were also successful in their applications and can take their place in the Cymru South should they finish in a promotion spot.
Mid Wales League leaders Llanidloes also have the licence along with mid-table Berriew.
Welsh Alliance League front runners Holyhead Hotspur were also successful as they aim for a return to the second tier.
Denbigh Town who were relegated last season have also applied as they seek an immediate return to the top level of North Walian football.
Holywell Town – second place in the Wrexham League Premier Division could compete in Wales’ second tier if they secure a top-two finish this season.
Fellow Wrexham side Mold Alexandra passed the criteria.
Out of the third tier clubs, only Croesyceiliog and Penydarren BGC were not granted a licence.
