UEFA distance reports about amending Champions League qualification

UEFA has distanced themselves from reports claiming that the Champions League qualification process would change.
A report originally posted from The Times which were later reported by us at Y Clwb Pêl-Droed claimed that UEFA were looking to amend the qualification process for the Champions League.
However the European governing body says it is monitoring the situation given that football is paused due to the coronavirus pandemic.
No changes have been brought to either the Champions League or the Europa League say UEFA.
A statement from the European chiefs said: “UEFA has never considered depriving domestic champions of their genuine right to try to achieve qualification through on-pitch performance for the UEFA Champions League Group Stage.
“UEFA wishes to clarify that it is currently simply monitoring the evolution of the situation and any potential impact on the format of qualifying rounds for next year’s club competitions.
“To date, no specific options have been developed for the format of qualification for European club competitions.”
Clubs in Wales would begin their preparations for next season’s Champions League and the Europa League but a suspension of football across Europe means the process
Wales are due to have four teams competing in European competitions next season with one representative in the Champions League and three in the Europa League.
Should the domestic season resume, the Europa League playoff winners would compete in the preliminary round whilst the Welsh Cup winners and second-placed side in the Cymru Premier would enter in the first qualifying round.
The side who are nominated as Champions of the Cymru Premier would compete in the first qualifying round of the Champions League.
