Alex Ramsay: Cofis shot-stopper joins Bala Town

Bala Town have signed goalkeeper Alex Ramsay from Gwynedd rivals Caernarfon Town.

Ramsay moves to Bala after being a long-term target of Lakesiders boss Colin Caton.

The 26-year-old had been at The Oval since November 2016 and has missed just one league match since achieving top flight with the Canaries.

“I’ve been an admirer of Alex for quite a number of years now, his kicking and talking at the back is going to add a lot to us,” said Caton after Bala announced the transfer.

I feel that he needs to kick on now, Bala’s going to be a challenge for him and he has to stake the claim for the number one jersey.

He will be a great addition to us, the information he gives to the back four is second to none.

“Socially too, I’ve spoken to Alex a lot when I’ve been watching Shrewsbury play and he’s another one that fits the category of a top lad who’s going to join our social side of things.

What we look for in lads, Alex ticks all the boxes plus his ability as a goalkeeper, he’s working hard this summer now to get himself fit.

He’s been signed on now for a long time for us and we’ve just been waiting to announce it. He was desperate to play for Bala.

I spoke to him last season but he was contracted on a two year deal and as soon as his contract expired, he was in touch. I was really pleased he’s signed for us – welcome onboard Alex.”

Ramsay could be seen as a direct replacement for Josh Tibbets, who announced his departure from Maes Tegid last week.

Long-serving goalkeeper Ashley Morris also left the club as Bala shuffle the pack ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Bala have already signed Cardiff Metropolitan attacker Will Evans in this transfer window.

Andrew Burns, Jonny Spittle, Lassana Mendes and Sean Smith have also put pen to paper on deals which will keep them at the JD Cymru Premier side.
