The EFL today announced the curtailment of the 2019/20 League Two season.

The division was decided on a points-per-game ratio with mixed success for Welshmen who ply their trade at England’s fourth level.

There was joy for one-time Wales international Lloyd Isgrove, who claimed a League Two winners medal after Swindon Town were crowned champions.

Isgrove, 27, made 29 league appearances, bagging five assists, as he played a key part in their promotion, following a summer move from Barnsley.

Former Wales U21 international Michael Doughty was also part of the Robins success, making 31 appearances for Richie Wellens’ men.

Wales U19 international Luke Jephcott was able to share the same joy as former Welsh domestic duo David Artell and Kenny Lunt as Plymouth Argyle were also promoted to League One.

The Aberystwyth-born forward was on target seven times this season for the Pilgrims.

His five goals in four starts earned him the EFL League Two Player of the Month and EFL Young Player of the Month, after starting the season on loan with Truro City.

Despite the season being curtailed, the Play-Offs will be carried out and there is involvement from a Welsh perspective.

Jake Taylor, a winger with one senior Wales cap to his name, will be captaining Exeter as they take on Colchester United in a two-legged play-off.

Taylor, 28, has scored twice this season, earning one assist for the Grecians.

There is an all Welsh affair in the other League Two Play-Off too as Cheltenham Town and Northampton Town do battle.

Former Rhyl loanee Owen Evans, a call-up to Ryan Giggs’ training squad last summer, could be in action against his opposite number in David Cornell.

The pair are in the top ten for most clean sheets in the league this season. Cornell, 29, has kept 12 clean sheets this season, whilst Evans has kept 10.

Evans will have a fellow compatriot alongside him when Cheltenham and Northampton do battle in the form of Newport born forward Ryan Broom.

Broom, 23, has been a bright spark for Michael Duff’s men this campaign, scoring eight times and earning six assists.

At the opposite end of the table, Glan Conwy born forward Cassidy, could suffer a relegation to the Vanarama National League with Stevenage.

The 27-year-old moved to the Hertfordshire club from Maidstone United in January for a five-figure fee.

Cassidy is not the only Welshman who may be suffering relegation heartache at Broadhall Way.

Former Taffs Well and England Women’s boss Mark Sampson is also there as an assistant to former Cardiff City striker Alex Revell. Sampson managed 14 of Stevenage’s games this season.

Welshmen Ieuan Lewis, a Fitness Coach at the club and Tony Roberts, a former Goalkeeping Coach with Wales, are also members of Stevenage’s backroom staff.
