Taffs Well: Allen, Gerrard, Knott and Toghill link up with Wellmen for new season

Taffs Well have signed four new players ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Josh Allen and Louis Gerrard join from JD Cymru South rivals Goytre United as Lee Kendall assembles a side capable of competing in Welsh football’s second tier.

Both Allen and Gerrard were playing at manager Lee Kendall’s former club Pontypridd Town last season before moving to Goytre in January.

Gerrard returns to Rhiw’r Ddar having been a youth player for the Wellmen, commenting on his return he said: “It’s a great club. I was here as a youth player and I hope to help improve the Club’s position.”

The 27-year-old’s other playing experience prior to a return to Taffs Well includes spells at Caerau Ely and Treforest.

He also spent four seasons at Barry Town United, helping them to the Welsh League title in 2017.

Gerrard made 42 appearances in the Cymru Premier for the Linnets.

Lloyd Toghill returns to the club after a spell away with Caerau Ely and Cardiff Draconians most recently.

Toghill, 31, spent a total of four seasons at Taffs Well after spells with Newport County, Pontypridd Town and Ton Pentre.

He was a Welsh League Division One winner with Caerau Ely in 2015.

Abdullah Mohsin has also committed his future to the club.

The additions of Allen, Gerrard, Knott and Toghill coincides with the clubs’ confirmation they would be playing in the JD Cymru South next season.

They received the news yesterday that they would not be relegated from the despite finishing in one of the three relegation spots.

Promotion and relegation was confirmed by the FAW, however, due to STM Sports not attaining the Tier Two Licence, the Wellmen received a reprieve for a second year running.
