Former Bala Town midfielder Conall Murtagh has this evening won the Premier League title with Liverpool.
The Reds were crowned champions of the Premier League after Chelsea’s 2-1 win over ten-man Manchester City meant Liverpool could not be caught by their title rivals.
Playing a vital part in their title success, former Lakesider Conall Murtagh worked as a fitness coach to Jurgen Klopp.
Murtagh was tasked with keeping players fit throughout the 2019/20 Premier League season and kept the Reds in condition following the restart of the campaign.
He has held the role since 2017, having worked in a similar role with their academy in 2012.
Murtagh combined his coaching commitments with Liverpool alongside his playing side of things Bala when he joined them in July 2012, however, promotion to Klopp’s staff in 2017 meant he had to focus entirely on his job with the Merseyside club.
The Cymru Premier stalwart has gone from numerous Europa League campaigns with Bala to working alongside the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Virgil van Dijk.
His last appearance in the Cymru Premier came in October 2017 in a 3-1 win over Newtown.
Since his last outing in the Welsh top flight as a player, Murtagh has won the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and now the Premier League as a coach.
In a playing career which began in 2003, the 34-year-old played for Aberystwyth Town, Connah’s Quay, Rhyl and The New Saints.
His longest spell at a club in football was for Bala where he made 191 appearances in all competitions for Colin Caton’s side.
