Northampton Town were tonight promoted to League One after seeing off Exeter City 4-0 in the League Two play-off final at Wembley Stadium.

Wales had two representatives in the game, with goalkeeper David Cornell and midfielder Nicky Adams part of the Cobblers side who will be celebrating this evening.

Keith Curle’s men put in a highly impressive performance to seal their place in the third tier for next season.

Ryan Watson, Callum Morton, Sam Hoskins and Andy Williams were all on target to complete a resounding win.

29-year-old stopper Cornell, who was born in Waunarlwydd, has previously featured in Wales squads, but is yet to make his international debut.

The former Swansea City youth player had a relatively quiet evening between the sticks, with the Grecians registering just one shot on target all game.

Adams, 33, has represented the Wales under-21 side on five occasions, and was forced off through injury after 31 minutes.

There was disappointment for Exeter City captain Jake Taylor. The midfielder, who made his first and only appearance for Wales in the 2-1 victory over Cyprus in 2014, will now be tasked with rallying his teammates to come back stronger next season.
