Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat against Arsenal on Wednesday night ended their hopes of reaching 100 points this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s side had to win their three remaining games to become the second Premier League team to be crowned centurions after Manchester City earned the feat in the 2017-18 season.
The Reds were on course to surpass the record set by Pep Guardiola’s men two seasons ago, but a 1-1 draw with Burnley at the weekend diminished their hopes of doing so.
And goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Reiss Nelson on Wednesday ensured the century mark is now out of reach for the Reds, who can finish on a maximum of 99 points should they win their final two matches.
But that did not stop Cymru Premier side Barry Town United, who twice managed to reach 100 points, having a cheeky dig at the Premier League champions.
The tweet read: “Getting to 100 points isn’t for everyone @LFC.” The club’s Twitter admin also added in winking and kissing emojis for good measure.

The Linnets dominated the League of Wales, now known as the Cymru Premier, in the mid-to-late nineties and surpassed the 100-point mark in back-to-back seasons.
Gary Barnett’s side racked up 105 points in the 1996-97 campaign, which was a 40-game campaign, before falling one point short in the following season having played two games less.
Barry are among a handful of European clubs – including Celtic, Reading, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and Manchester City – who have managed to accumulate 100 points in a single season.
