George Thomas: Welsh winger joins QPR on a free transfer
Welsh international George Thomas has completed a move to Queens Park Rangers on a three-year deal.
The winger, who was a free agent prior to joining the R’s, has represented his country on three occasions after making his senior debut in a friendly against Mexico in 2018.
Thomas, 23, began his career with Coventry City after coming through the youth ranks with the Midlands side.
He made 42 appearances for the Sky Blues before leaving to join Leicester – his place of birth – in 2017.
He failed to make a senior appearance for the Foxes, and has since had loan spells with Scunthorpe United and ADO den Haag.
Speaking to the club website on his arrival at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, Thomas said: “I am over the moon to get this done. QPR is a big club and I can’t wait to get started.
“I want to play as many games as I can. Seeing the young boys coming through here, getting games and improving, definitely had an impact on my decision.”
Rangers manager Mark Warburton says he is looking forward to working with Thomas, who he describes as “a very talented young player who I know is very highly thought of by the Welsh staff.”
“He has shown his quality during loan spells and is more than ready to make this step up in his career. I have no doubt he will positively impact the club,” he added.
Thomas will not have wait long to get started in the English capital, after the recent announcement that the 2020-21 Championship season is to begin on 12 September.
