Welsh clubs move closer to normality as contact training to be permitted

The Football Association of Wales took the next step into football resuming some normality after initiating Phase Two.

For Monday, 10 August, clubs can train in groups of 15 and contact training will be allowed at all-levels of football.

A maximum of two groups could be on a training area, meaning that 30 people could be permitted to a training session.

Despite a relaxation in the rules, competitive and exhibition matches are still not allowed to take place.

A statement from the FAW commenting on the matter said: “We continue to work with Welsh Government, Sport Wales and Welsh Sports Association and we hope to be able to announce the return of fixtures in the near future.”

The rules prior to today’s announcement were that training could take place in Wales on a non-contact basis.

In seven days time, clubs will find it more accessible to conduct their pre-season preparations.

Cymru Premier clubs involved in European action have been in training for a number of weeks as they prepare for this month’s Champions League and Europa League qualifiers.

Barry Town United and Connah’s Quay played each other in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Colliers Park to help aid each sides preparations.

All four European sides will play in a behind-closed-doors environment for qualifying as per UEFA rules.

Barry and Connah’s Quay have announced that should they be drawn at home, their fixtures will take place at the COVID-19 compliant Cardiff City Stadium.
