Cefn Druids sign serial Cymru Premier winner Alex Darlington

Cefn Druids have signed experienced Cymru Premier forward Alex Darlington.

The 31-year-old is moving to the Rock after spending the 2019/20 season at Airbus UK Broughton.

Seven-time league winner Darlington scored twice in 14 appearances for the Wingmakers last season.

Prior to joining the Druids, Darlington had a brief playing spell in Malta for Mosta.

Darlington is recognised mostly for his time at The New Saints, where he won the league title seven times, as well as four Welsh Cups and five League Cups.

Commenting on the Ancients newest addition, club chairman Des Williams said: “We were tracking Alex prior to the lockdown and had him as our top target to accompany Jamie Reed in the attacking line.

Darlington is the third signing of the summer for the Druids after the additions of defenders Ben Barrat and Steffan Edwards.

They will join Aaron Simpson, Iwan Cartwright, Jamie Reed, Jonny Taylor, Michael Jones and Naim Arsan who all committed to further seasons with the club.

Elsewhere, youth goalkeeper Ben Edwards has been promoted to the first team.

The Ancients are also close to appointing a new manager after a social media post last week revealed that they had plans to unveil their new coach.

Club bosses have been searching for a permanent successor to Huw Griffiths after he left for Caernarfon Town.

Stuart Gelling took charge of the Druids on an interim basis but has since moved on to take up coaching duties in China.

Whilst the search for a new Head Coach was being conducted, Jayson Starkey was placed in control of first-team affairs.

The new manager will work alongside Clive Davies, who was appointed as Head of Goalkeeping following Del Morgan’s departure to Connah’s Quay.
