Cefn Druids appoint Portimonense’s Bruno Lopes as Head Coach

Cefn Druids have appointed Bruno Lopes as their new first-team manager.

Lopes is taking charge after Stuart Gelling’s time at the club was brought to an end following the expiration of his contract.

The 36-year-old is joining the Druids after moving on from Portuguese outfit Portimonense.

Commenting on his appointment, chairman Des Williams said: “We have known about Bruno for some time but he was unavailable and when we found out that he was suddenly available, we immediately took the opportunity to make contact and I’m pleased to have him on board.”

Lopes, who hails from Portimão, was heavily involved with Portimonense, who were recently relegated from the Primeira Liga.

He held the role as Head Coach of their U23s and was previously a first-team analyst.

In the 2019/20 season, Lopes was placed in caretaker charge of the senior side and managed three games, including a narrow 2-1 defeat to Sporting CP.

With the U23s side, he managed 29 matches, claiming 10 wins, seven defeats and 12 losses.

Away from Portugal, the new Ancients boss has held roles with Cincinnati Dutch Lions and Dayton Dutch Lions in these United States.

He also had a six-month coaching pell in Singapore.
