Haverfordwest County 1-4 Connah’s Quay Nomads: Nomads stroll to victory over Bluebirds

Connah’s Quay Nomads secured a 4-1 success at the Bridge Meadow stadium over Haverfordwest County.

The reigning champions maintained their unbeaten start to the season and ended Haverfordwest’s run as Craig Curran netted twice alongside Aeron Edwards and Declan Poole.

The first came on eleven minutes as late replacement Stephen Hall spilt a driven shot into the path of Curran who tucked it away from six yards.

Andy Morrison’s team were well drilled and they kept the home attack at bay with ease, the side having four changes from last week’s game and included veteran midfielder Nicky Palmer in central midfield.

The 38-year-old postman didn’t look out of place alongside Kieran Lewis, the home side taking the best part of 35 minutes to get in the game, before an equaliser came courtesy of home captain Sean Pemberton after Cameron Keetch drove a free kick against the upright and the centre half tucked it into an empty net.

As the half wore on Jack Wilson’s pace started to influence the home sides play and he troubled the defence on a number of occasions, his move to the right linking well with Watts.

The Nomads skipper Priestly Farrqharson led the line alongside opening goal scorer Curran, the dead ball situation one which they dominated, although Hall atoned for the opening goal with a commanding performance in goal as his confidence grew.

He helped Pemberton in clearing the balls being swung in and he saved well a couple of times from the efforts of central midfielder Sameron Singh-Dool.

The second half saw Nicky Palmer miss the target from ten yards, his header one which should have put his side ahead and at this level they were punished for the miss.

Two goals in three minutes, Curran scoring his second on 51 minutes after Dan Davies hit the upright before Sameron Sigh-Dool drove strongly at the heart of the defence and Aaron Edwards scored his first goal for the Club.

Both sides made substitutions, Aaron Williams making ground as the game opened up and as the half wore on the home sides discipline went, as cards were issued to Facett, Keetch, Williams and Assistant Manager Mark Murison, full back Declan Pool striking into an open goal after Farquharson out muscled Watts at the far post.

The victory, well deserved for the Nomads at 4-1 shows the difference between the teams, one the defending champions and a newly promoted side, with new personnel in their ranks and the majority not having experienced playing at the highest level.

In Farquahason they have a leader by example, wither upfront of in defence when he made the switch, supplemented by skills of Dool and Edwards who dominated the midfield. Some solace for Wayne Jones was the performance of Jack Wilson, the speedster standing out.
