Five things we learned from Cardiff Met’s hard-fought win against Flint
Christian Edwards’ side picked up their first home win of the season on Saturday in an end-to-end affair full of action.
Dylan Rees and Ollie Hulbert were on target for the Archers as they ended their four-game losing streak against a well-organised Flint side.
This is what we learned from the match.
Dylan Rees is pivotal for the Archers
Following his goal last week against the Nomads, Dylan Rees put in a stellar performance both offensively and defensively.
Rees scored the opener with a long-range effort just after half-time, arguably against the run-of-play.
The midfielder also played a monumental part in ensuring the win for the hosts as he dominated the midfield until the end.
Warwick is promising
Harry Warwick was energetic throughout the 90 minutes and caused Flint’s defence problems with his pace, quick-feet and overall directness.
Warwick did, however, show signs of lacking composure, missing a few chances where he seemed to rush his finish.
The 19-year-old attacker is showing signs of his potential so improving his finishing could make him one of the league’s most deadly strikers.
Flint start well
Despite losing their fifth game on the trot, the Silkmen didn’t play all that bad.
In fact, Flint started the more lively of the two sides and were arguably unlucky to go into the half level-pegging.
Although they may feel hard done by with the loss, they have plenty of positives to take from the game.
Met capable of holding onto a lead
The Students battled well in the latter stages of the second half to keep hold of their one-goal advantage.
Added pressure from the visitors meant Cardiff Met had to take the sting out of the game.
The task was made all the more difficult after Flint gained momentum from their goal.
Defensively, the hosts looked assured and it didn’t feel as though they would concede a late goal.
Warman is electric
This is less something we learned, more something rectified.
Despite not directly contributing to a goal, Liam Warman caused havoc to the Flint Town defence as we witnessed his blistering pace multiple times throughout the course of the game.
