Swansea City to play Apollon Ladies in UEFA Champions League

Swansea City will play away to Cypriot champions Apollon Ladies in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Ian Owens’ side will play them on either Tuesday, 3 November or a day later on Wednesday, 4 November.

A change to the qualifying format has seen ties become one-legged, rather than a four-team round at a host venue.

In a statement by the FAW, they said: “It has been confirmed by the Welsh Government that the firebreak lockdown regulations will allow Swansea City to participate in the UWCL and play the Cypriot champions.”

The reigning Welsh Premier Women’s League faced an anxious wait to see if they could participate in the competition.

After the Welsh Government introduced a firebreak, the Welsh Premier Women’s League league has been suspended until at least November 9.

It comes after the FAW asked the Welsh Government for special dispensation to allow the fixture to go ahead.
