Russia is in contention to host EURO 2020 – reports

Russia is in contention to host EURO 2020 should the format for the competition change.

The competition was meant to be played last summer but the Coronavirus pandemic has seen the tournament postponed until next year.

Michel Platini, formerly the president of UEFA, introduced the idea of hosting the tournament in 12 different countries.

However due to the pandemic, those plans may be shelved and instead the competition would be played in one country.

French newspaper Le Parisien says that Russia, who hosted the World Cup in 2018, are the front runners to host the competition.

However, further on in the report, UEFA refused to confirm or deny the plans when they were contacted.

Wales qualified after finishing second in their group and were drawn in the same group as Italy, Switzerland and Turkey, with two games being played in Baku.
