Ben Davies: Ireland will provide a tough test

Ben Davies has insisted that tomorrows crunch Nations League fixture against Republic of Ireland at the Cardiff City Stadium will be another tough game for him and his side.

Wales are two wins away from sealing promotion from League B Group 1 which will improve their pot status ahead of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers in the new year.

Davies, 27, was rested along with Gareth bale during midweek as they both saw their side see out a 0-0 draw with USA in Swansea on Thursday evening.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, the Spurs defender said: “It’s going be another tough test for us. We’ve got to make sure that we’re ready and well prepared in order to keep this great run in the Nations League going.

“Ireland are always tough to play against, they always to make the games hard for you. In recent contests bar our 4-1 win against them in Cardiff there hasn’t been a lot of goals in previous games which shows just emphasises how much of a tough fixture it is between ourselves.

“We’re two nations who are always full of pride when representing our countries who strive to win every game which I think is the reason why our games have been so edgy over the years. Nobody wants to lose these games so it’s about developing that never die attitude and also striving to develop that winning mentality.

“We’re expecting a real tough game tomorrow, but we’ve got to do the same as in every other game be patient, believe in ourselves and hopefully we can come out of the game with three points.

Since their Nations League campaign began in September, Wales have been pronoun for scoring late goals and Davies believes it’s just down to the team’s spirit.

“Personally, I think it’s just a belief in what we’re doing. We know in certain games we’ve got to be patient and wait for the right moments, but we always try and stick our game plans which have paid off so far.

“Our team spirit is huge and we’ve just got to have the same going into tomorrow and hopefully we can maintain this good form going forward and seal league promotion.
