Liam Cullen keen to impress for senior team spot

Liam Cullen is relishing his opportunities within the Cymru intermediate squads as he admits his next ambition is for a place in the Men’s senior squad.

Over last 12 months, the likes of Ben Cabango, Neco Williams, Rabbi Mantondo and Dylan Levitt have all been promoted into the senior squad after successful spells within the U21’s age group and that is what the current Swansea youngster is looking to grasp in the future.

“I think it’s everyone’s ambition here to be honest. The players in that squad now who’ve represented these squads in the past the pathway speaks for itself now.

“I think we are one of the best nations for that in producing young international players from such young age groups so to be part of that is great for my development as a player.

“For me now it’s all about consistently performing, scoring goals and trying to work to my maximum level in each game.

Cullen is in Wales U21 action tonight as his side take on Germany in their Euro U21 Qualifying campaign and Cullen is hoping that his side can take huge confidence from Friday’s win over Moldova.

“Obviously spirits have been raised since Friday, we came off the back of disappointing performance against Beligium so our main focus on Friday was just to get it right and fortunately we got the win.

“We are confident going into the game on Tuesday, we know what qualities we’ve got and also what they’ve got but we’ve just got to make sure from our point of view that we try and deliver another strong and positive performance.

Last time out against the Germans, Wales suffered a 5-1 home defeat at the Racecourse, and Cullen has expressed how eager him, and his side are to get a positive result this time round.

“It’s still on our minds obviously what happened last time, so we are ready to challenge them once again to try and get a positive result this time. Going back to that game we probably didn’t deserve to concede that many goals but in football it doesn’t always go your way. We’ve just got to use that result now as an incentive for Tuesday nights encounter.

“We know Germany are going to be much tougher opposition than Moldova, but I think we still carry out the same game plan. Every game plan is different as teams bring different tactics and qualities to the table each week but again if we can produce the same performance levels as Friday then I think we can have a right good go at them.”
