Cymru Leagues to remain suspended after Welsh Government extends lockdown
The suspension of JD Cymru Leagues matches is to continue for the remainder of January.
An announcement from the Welsh Government today announced a three-week extension to the current lockdown in Wales.
In the firebreak lockdown, Bala Town, Haverfordwest County and The New Saints were staged, as a result of their professional status. However as a result of the a new COVID variant, the domestic game in Wales is completely shut down.
All scheduled fixtures in the JD Cymru Premier, North and South have now been postponed until a later date.
In a statement, released by the JD Cymru Leagues, it read: “Following the First Minister’s announcement today (8 January) that the lockdown in Wales will continue for at least another three weeks, the JD Cymru Premier has decided to postpone the remainder of January’s fixtures.
“Although fixtures between professional clubs are permitted to take place during this Alert Level 4 lockdown of the Welsh Government Control Plan, the league fully takes into consideration the current public health crisis.
“The JD Cymru Premier and its clubs continue to urge everyone to follow the Welsh Government guidelines to limit the spread of COVID-19 in order to keep people safe and lessen the impact on NHS Wales.”
The JD Cymru North and South were due to start their season in January in a different format.
Second tier clubs were granted ‘elite’ status by Sport Wales, however that was suspended in mid December.
