Jack Evans has signed for Newport County on a free transfer from Swansea City.
Evans, who was recently recalled from a loan spell with Cypriot side Pafos FC, progressed through the Swans’ academy since he joined the club at the age of eight.
In 2018 the 22-year-old was diagnosed with cancer and battled off the condition to make his sole appearance for Steve Cooper’s side in a 6-0 victory over Cambridge United in the Carabao Cup back in August 2019.
The midfielder has captained Swansea’s Under-23 side and made 13 appearances in Premier League 2 Division 2, but ultimately struggled to get into the first team set up.
After signing for The Exiles, who currently sit at the summit of League Two, speaking to newport-county.co.uk Evans said:
“I’m thrilled to be here and I can’t wait to get going. It’s a Welsh club and the style of play suits me, so I think it’s a perfect fit.
“The move has been in the works for a little while and when the opportunity came up, I jumped at the chance.
“It’s a really exciting time for the club given where they are in the league table, so I’m looking forward to getting started.”
Manager Michael Flynn expressed his admiration for Jack Evans’ tenacity: “He’s a character to be admired after the setbacks he has had in life and I’m looking forward to working with him.
“I would like to thank Swansea City for their help in making this deal happen.”
Newport County have also secured the signature of Jake Scrimshaw on loan from AFC Bournemouth.
