Colwyn Bay form new women’s side with ambitions for Tier Two football
Colwyn Bay have announced that they are to form a new senior women’s side which are aiming to compete in the second tier of Women’s football in Wales.
The Seagulls have applied to be a part of the FAW’s new pyramid structure, which will come into effect for the 2021/22 season.
Should they receive a Tier Two Certificate then they will be considered for the eight-team division, which feeds into the Welsh Premier Women’s League.
The club previously had a Women’s side, but they had played in the English pyramid system.
Leading the Women’s team will be former Wales youth international Louisha Doran.
Doran, formerly of Llandudno, is in the proccess of studying for her FAW ‘A’ Licence qualificatio.
Commenting on the formation of the new women’s side, Neil Coverly, the director of football at the club said: ““As a club we brought the juniors closer and become a more integral part of us, the Academy has had an overhaul in recent months and is becoming stronger month by month, and now we have a group of coaches learning, engaging and very proactive under Head Coach Matt Sampson.
“The formation of a Senior Ladies team, which will apply to be part of the newly formed Tier 2 North for the 2021/22 season, is truly exciting news and one which help give an opportunity for local girls and ladies to play football at a very high standard against the best in Wales.”
