Cardiff City are eyeing a late push for Charlton Athletic and Wales Jonny Williams according to reports.
The Bluebirds already have Williams’ compatriots Harry Wilson, Kieffer Moore and Will Vaulks on their books, but now be set to add a fourth player to their squad.
Williams is out of contract with the Addicks in the summer and that could be enough for Cardiff to prize him away from The Valley.
The Sun journalist Phil Cadden who regularly covers the Welsh national team, tweeted that manager Mick McCarthy was keen to make Williams his first signing since replacing Neil Harris.
The 27-year-old previously worked under McCarthy during a brief loan spell at Ipswich Town in 2016.
McCarthy however remained coy on any possible deals with the January deadline on Monday evening.
“No manager is going to tell anybody anyway if there is some business going on,” revealed McCarthy.
“Actually, there’s not a great deal with us, but if we can do something then we will.
“I sometimes find it a little bit insulting to the squad that we have.
Should Williams be a genuine target however then they are looking at a player which has made 18 league appearances with two goals registered to his name with Charlton occupying the seventh spot in the League One standings.
In October 2020, Williams also scored his first goal for his country in Wales’ 1-0 victory over Bulgaria which helped them in their historic promotion in the UEFA Nations League.
