Cardiff Met sign Swansea City duo Josh Thomas and Matthew Blake on Loan
Cardiff Met have signed Swansea City duo Josh Thomas and Matthew Blake on loan from Swansea City, as well as Lewis Rees from The New Saints for the rest of the season.
Thomas, who is 18 years of age, recently signed a new contract with the Swans but currently has a way to go before he makes his debut for the Championship side’s first team.
Meanwhile, Blake’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season in SA1 so a comprehensive loan spell with the Archers could set him in good stead to see his contract renewed.
Revealing his excitement on moving to Cyncoed Campus, Thomas tweeted: “I’m absolutely buzzing to be going on loan to Cardiff Met.
“I can’t wait for the Cymru Premier to get up and running again. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Announcing their departure from the Liberty Stadium, the Swans said: “We wish Matthew and Josh well during their spell with Cardiff Met.”
Striker Lewis Rees also joined the Met on Deadline Day, moving from The New Saints.
Rees is an academy product at Park Hall and signed his first professional contract in June 2020.
The young forward has six substitute appearances for Scott Ruscoe’s men this season.
Christian Edwards’ side currently sit in eighth placed in the Cymru Premier, and the signings of Blake, Thomas and Rees could be massive in terms of Met’s push for European play-offs, when action eventually resumes in the Welsh top-flight.
