Dylan Levitt closing in on loan move to Croatian side NK Istra

Dylan Levitt is in talks to join Croatian side NK Istra on loan from the remainder of the season.

The Manchester United midfielder is pushing for a place in Wales’ EURO 2020 squad and will use the loan as a means to impress Ryan Giggs.

The 20-year-old had spent the first-half of the season at Charlton Athletic, however he was limited to just five appearances.

NK Istra currently sit bottom of the Croatian First Division, but the opportunity will provide him with some much-needed minutes of first-team football.

Levitt’s agent Ivan Omrcen said to the Manchester Evening News: “He immediately agreed to come [to Istra] when we explained how much he will have to give in Istria. Dylan loves challenges.”

The Bodelwyddan-born midfielder joined Charlton on loan in the summer but saw the deal terminated by his parent club with the prospect of another loan move.

He had returned to Old Trafford where he made a number of appearances for their Under-23s side, playing alongside January summer signing Amad Diallo.

He becomes the second young Welsh midfielder to make a move to Croatia after Robbie Burton opted to leave Arsenal for Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb in 2020.

A move to the Balkans has surprised many, who thought the youngster would move to another football league side or the Netherlands, where there was interest last summer.

However, it’s believed the player is impressed by the scouting and research the Croatian side have already done on him.

Levitt has made just one appearance for the Red Devils during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign, starting in their 2-1 Europa League defeat in Astana back in 2019.

He has so far made five appearances for the Welsh national team.

His last appearance was the goalless draw with the United States at the Liberty Stadium.
