Plymouth boss Ryan Lowe says his striker Luke Jephcott has a chance at a call-up to Ryan Giggs’ Wales squad for the Euros this coming summer.

Jephcott has had a brilliant season at Home Park and is the current top scorer in League 1 netting 16 times in 23 games.

The 21 year old attracted attention from Championship clubs in January and is now being considered for a seat on the plane for the Euros in June.

Lowe said to Devon Live: “Funny enough, me and Neil (Dewsnip, Director of Football) were talking about that on Monday after training.”

“Would they take him just because he’s a goal scorer in League One? I don’t know. Do they want Championship, Premier League players? I’m not sure.”

The Aberystwyth born marksman took off last January as he scored an impressive five goals in four starts on his return from a loan spell with Southern Premier South side Truro City.

This form won him both the League 2 Player and Young Player of the month awards as the Pilgrims voyaged toward an eventual promotion back to the third tier.

Whilst Wales do not play with a similar system to Plymouth, manager Lowe believes Jephcott can get a call-up and will have deserved it if that does transpire.

“They play a 4-3-3 so I don’t think they play two up front like we do. If he scores another five or six goals then I would like to see him on the plane to the Euros, 100 per cent.

“It remains to be seen. If he goes (to the Euros) he will have warranted going. If he doesn’t then no problem, he’s still learning.

Jephcott has played nine times for Wales at Under-19 and 21 level including an appearance in a 3-0 win over Moldova last November.

His manager now believes that Jephcott will for sure be on the radar of the Wales first team in the coming months.

Lowe said: “He has deserved the chance to go with the under-21s. I don’t think he has scored a goal yet, but they play a 4-3-3.

“For me, anyone who scores more than 20 goals in League One deserves a chance of something. That’s the way I’m looking at.

“I’m sure they will be looking at him and monitoring the situation and seeing where it goes.”

Wales have three international games in March including tough World Cup Qualifiers against Belgium and Czech Republic.

Like Lowe, you can’t help but feel he’ll need to be in the squad for those games to have a chance of a trip to the Euros.

“If he gets called up in March then maybe he has got a chance of going.”
