Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey returns to action following injury

Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has returned to action following an injury suffered on international duty.

Hennessey was forced off with a thigh injury in Wales’ 1-0 win over Bulgaria in the UEFA Nations League back in October.

Deputising in his place was Stoke City goalkeeper Adam Davies, who himself sustained an injury which has seen him sidelined.

In their absence, Danny Ward played in Wales’ wins over Ireland and Finland, with Owain Fon-Williams and Tom King acting as back-up goalkeepers.

The shot-stopper made his return starting for Crystal Palace U23’s against Burnley U23’s in the Premier League 2 Division 2.

The 34-year old kept a clean sheet, as Palace ran out 1-0 winners with David Omilabu scoring the only goal.

Hennessey’s return to action will be a huge boost to Wales with three fixtures coming up in March in the next international period.

The FIFA World Cup qualification campaign begins with a trip to face Belgium, the side Wales famously defeated in the quarter-finals of Euro 2016.

March fixtures also include a friendly with Mexico, before returning to competitive action as they host the Czech Republic.
