Hayley Ladd signs new two-year deal with Manchester United

Wales international Hayley Ladd has penned a new deal with Manchester United, that will see her remain at Leigh Sports Village until 2023.

The new deal also includes an option to extend Ladd’s contract at United for an additional year.

The 27-year-old midfielder joined the Red Devils in 2019 from Birmingham City, ahead of their first season in the WSL.

“I’m so happy to be committing my future to the club,” Ladd told Manchester United’s official website.

“To be a part of this squad is really special and I’m really enjoying my time here. When I first came to United, I knew I would be part of an ambitious group of players and staff and that mindset has only grown stronger over the last couple of years.”

The defensive midfielder has been vital for United this season, with the club hoping to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their young history.

They currently sit third in the WSL, occupying the final Champions League spot nine points ahead of Arsenal, who have two games in hand.

Manchester United head coach, Casey Stoney, said: “Hayley is an important player for us, and I’m pleased to see her signing a new contract at the club. Her style of play brings a calmness to our midfield and the relationship she has on the pitch with the players around her is invaluable.

“Hayley is also a great character who works very hard and is always willing to learn and improve in everything she does. It’s fantastic to see her continue her journey with the club.”

Since joining in 2019, Ladd has made 39 appearances for United, cementing herself as one of the first names on Stoney’s team sheet.

She was named Manchester United Player of the Year during her first season at the club back in 2019/20, starting all 14 of United’s games as the season was curtailed due to Covid-19.

Ladd made her international debut back in 2011 as a late substitute during a friendly against New Zealand and has gone on to achieve 63 caps for Wales.
