Five talking points as Barry Town edge past Aberystwyth Town

Barry Town got back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Aberystwyth Town at Jenner Park in the JD Cymru Premier.

An 86^th minute strike from attacker Nat Jarvis saw Gavin Chesterfield’s side take all three points. 

Here are five main talking points from Barry Town’s victory:

Barry Town bounce back

After Tuesday night’s 1-0 loss to Penybont, it was crucial that Chesterfield’s side got back to winning ways as soon as possible, especially with tricky games against the likes of Bont and Bala Town on the horizon. 

The Linnets, having created numerous chances to take the lead in the second half, eventually did just that. 

The victory shows character amongst the Linnets ranks to respond in a positive manner following a disappointing defeat.

Nat Jarvis gets his goal

Mid-way through the second-half, the Linnets’ January signing Jamie Bird brilliantly beat Jack Rimmer and found Nat Jarvis free at the back post. 

It looked as though Jarvis was going to break the deadlock with the best chance of the game to that point, but the striker fired agonisingly over the bar. 

However, despite missing a great chance, Jarvis persisted in getting into positive positions and got his reward, as he was found by Michael George to emphatically slot home the winner. 

Impact from the bench

With five substitutions now introduced in the Cymru Premier, the impact of the substitutes is crucial. 

In Barry Town’s case, they called upon the likes of Callum Sainty, Curtis Jemmett-Hutson, Rhys Kavanagh and Kyle Patten, which gave them an edge in the second-half. 

In an even contest for large parts of the game, Barry Town’s strength in depth came through to secure the victory. 

Harry Franklin impresses

In a positive performance from Aberystwyth, the Seasiders created a number of chances of their own. 

It seemed as though every positive attack from the visitors came through January signing Harry Franklin.

The young winger was a threat throughout and certainly had an impressive showing. 

Encouraging performance from Aberystwyth

As a whole, the Seasiders’ performance was very positive, as the visitors showed a willingness to press and force the Linnets into mistakes.

It was clear from Aberystwyth Town’s energy that they were buoyed by their opening two results since the re-start of the Cymru Premier season. 

Having created a number of chances and matched Barry Town for large parts of the game, the Seasiders will feel aggrieved to be leaving Jenner Park empty-handed.
