Why Lincoln starlet Brennan Johnson is fully-deserving of Wales call-up

It is fair to say that Brennan Johnson has engraved a lasting impression whilst on loan at Lincoln City.
This term, the Imps have enjoyed a wealth of success, keeping avid chase with the League One promotion race.
Johnson, the creative centrepiece of the Lincoln side, has proved to have a particularly crucial role over the course of the campaign.
At the tender age of nineteen, Johnson has lit up the LNER Stadium with a series of scintillating performances since moving from Nottingham Forest on a season long loan.
Currently, Johnson sits on 17 goal involvements in 31 matches and, as a reward for his dazzling displays, was handed his debut for the Welsh national team back in November.
As a result, the young starlet has received a Wales call-up for the third time as the Red Dragons commence their World Cup qualification campaign with matches against Belgium and the Czech Republic.
However, Johnson’s international aspirations may well extend beyond this.
For me, the Nottingham native is thoroughly deserving of a seat on the plane for Wales’ EURO 2020 squad this summer.
Marrying an aura of invention with a swift turn of pace, Johnson is capable of wrecking havoc in a variety of positions.
And whilst the Forest academy graduate has been deployed in the middle of the park, in the false nine role and as a number 10, he has embraced the optimum of his success on the left side of a free-flowing front three.
Perhaps though, Johnson’s primary area of expertise centres around his ability to draw fouls, which has been produced to devastating effect this season.
Possessing quick feet, an agile edge and the ability to operate and manoeuvre in tight spaces, these qualities have came to full fruition as the young winger has won an impressive six penalties for the Imps.
Therefore, it is little wonder why top flight suitors have been put on red alert, with the likes of Leeds and Burnley reportedly keeping tabs on the Welsh International.
Many would stake a justifiable claim that Johnson is already far too gifted for England’s third tier and the promising attacker looks set to be a big part of Chris Hughton’s plans at the City Ground next season should he stay in the East Midlands.
If Johnson can continue to flourish on a consistent basis, there is no reason why his talents cannot be announced on the grand stage later this year.
