Charlie Mitchell appointed as new Cyncoed Ladies manager

Cyncoed Ladies have unveiled Charlie Mitchell as their new manager.

Mitchell replaces Josh Richards who left for Yeovil Town in December.

He is returning to Wales, having spent time with the Wales Women’s National squads previously, after coaching in Cyprus for the past 12 months.

“The players and staff have been fantastic right from the off”, he said. “JJ, who is with us, did a great job in stabilising things and it has given us a real platform to build from,” he told the club’s website.

“I couldn’t have asked much more from the players in the last three weeks, they have honestly given me everything and the commitment to the whole environment from them is phenomenal.”

Whilst working for the club, the 25-year-old will be working towards his UEFA-A-Licence.

He will also juggle his role as first-team manager with his work for football data analytics business Analytics FC as well as being Head of Coaching at the Priority Football Academy.

His coaching career began eight years ago, starting as a Performance Analyst, and has led to him working in the UK and Europe.

Mitchell was a part of the backroom staff at Doncaster Belles in 2017/18 when they won the WSL 2.

He also has international football experience from his time working with the Wales Women’s national squads.

Most recently, Mitchell spent time coaching in Cyprus. “It turned out to be a huge challenge and something I thoroughly enjoyed,” he said.

“It was a totally different environment to anything at home, but the fact as a staff we did some great work and had some successes along the way in a challenging environment meant that going forward, we have even more faith in our processes.

Mitchell’s debut in the dugout will be this Sunday at home against Briton Ferry, in the WPWL.

“They come to us off the back of two games, which is the first thing to appreciate, that they are a couple of games back in and will be ready for us, from the first whistle.”

Director of Football Fern Burrage-Male believes it’s an exciting time for Cyncoed Ladies.

In a statement released on the club’s website, she said: “We are delighted to appoint Charlie as the Head Coach of our First Team.

“His desire and ambition match that of our great club and his arrival has invigorated the team over the last few weeks.

“We look forward to supporting Charlie on his A licence this year as he continues his coaching journey and I’d like to take this opportunity to wish Charlie a warm welcome to the #MightyOaks family.”
