Swansea City’s Brandon Cooper has been called up to Wales’ squad for their matches with Mexico and the Czech Republic.
After injuries to Ben Davies and Tom Lockyer, as well as the availability of James Lawrence, Rob Page has looked to the Porthcawl-born defender as cover.
The 21-year-old had been a substitute for Swansea in their matches with Bristol City and Luton Town.
He had spent the first part of the season on loan at Newport County, where he made 19 league appearances, scoring once.
In a short tweet, expressing his delight in being called up, he tweeted: “I’m delighted to get my first call up for the senior squad.”
Cooper has played for three age-group teams for Wales, featuring for the Under-17s side on seven occasions.
He also played eight times for the Under-19s before the transition step to the Under-21s where he has made eight appearances.
The Swans defender was due to face Ireland in a friendly at Colliers Park this Friday, but will now prepare for Saturday’s friendly with Mexico and Wales’ World Cup qualifier with the Czechs.
