Daniel Barden signs new deal at Championship leaders Norwich City

Wales Under-21 international goalkeeper Daniel Barden has signed a new long term deal with Premier League chasing Norwich City.

The 20 year old has put pen to paper in Norfolk keeping him at Carrow Road until 2024 with the option of a year’s extension.

Barden has experience on the international stage playing for Wales’ Under 19’s and was recently called up to the Under-21’s for the first time ahead of their friendly with Ireland.

Speaking to Norwich City FC website, Barden said: “It has been a really good year for me, personally and the club as well, and I am really excited and really happy to sign a new deal.

“It was drilled into me as soon as I came here that there are opportunities for young players here and I have worked my way up.”

Barden spent last season at Norfolk based Isthmian League North side Bury Town turning out 26 times for the Blues.

Now having made his full debut in the Championship, Barden feels the loan move was an important part of his journey to first team football.

“I went on loan last year to non-league and I think you have always got to think about the bigger picture and what you are working towards. The club have dealt with me really brilliantly.

“They have given me all the opportunities that they can, and I think they have given opportunities to a load of young players.”

Barden has made just two appearances for the Canaries since his move from Arsenal back in January 2019.

But despite being down the pecking order behind the likes of Tim Krul and Orjan Nyland, Barden says working alongside them has been very beneficial for his growth.

“I think they are all great characters and all really positive.

“It has been great to speak to them every day on the pitch and in training. I think all the advice you get is brilliant.”
