Penybont 2-0 Caernarfon Town: Georgievsky and Wood on target as Bont eye home advantage

Penybont moved up to fourth in the Championship Conference after defeating Caernarfon Town 2-0 at the SDM Glass Stadium.

Goals from Kostya Georgievsky and Nathan Wood put Penybont above Barry Town after their loss at Bala Town.

Kostya Georgievsky opened the scoring after 34 minutes to give the home side a one-goal lead at halftime. Nathan Wood struck late in the second half to give Penybont a vital win.

Caernarfon now look likely to remain in sixth place as they are eight points behind Barry who are now fifth.



Penybont attacked from the start and Kane Owen almost found Ben Ahmun in the box but Caernarfon were able to stop the attack giving Penybont a corner.

Moments later a good run from Lewis Harling, who got past two players, and he almost set Ahmun up again as Caernarfon were able to clear.

Caernarfon had an early chance from Sion Bradleys corner. He found Arnaldo Fernandes Mendes, but he was only able to head over.

The home side pushed for the opening goal with Kane Owen and Mael Davies trying to get forward and play into Ahmun. Billy Borge was able to Georgievsky in the box. He took the ball well but was unable to create a shot at goal.

A Caernarfon counterattack saw Lewis Harling bring down Mendes for a free-kick. It was wasted however as it was sent into the box and no one pressured Penybont keeper Ashley Morris.

Lewis Clutton and Georgievsky were both lively on either wing. Georgievsky almost setting up Nathan Wood and Clutton winning a corner moments later. Owen took the corner and even though Caernarfon cleared it ended up back with Owen. The Penybont captain found Nathan Wood and Wood forced a sharp save from Lewis Brass.

It was from the wide areas that Penybont got their opening goal. A cross close to the goal at the far post was turned in by Georgievsky to give Penybont a deserved lead.

Penybont kept the pressure on as Mael Davies saw his shot blocked and Wood fired wide from the edge of the box.

Caernarfon pushed back towards the end of the half as Cai Jones had a penalty claim turned away Michael Hayes fired over the bar.

Georgievsky was proving hard to handle as he almost had a second as he headed at goal rom Owen’s cross with Brass put on his toes to save.

Penybont settled and after good work from Owen and Wood forced Caernarfon’s Gareth Edwards to head over his own bar.

As Penybont kept the pressure on the visitors Billy Borge had the best chance of the half. Hitting the ball first time form the edge of the are Borge saw the ball cannon back off the post.

At the hour mark, Kane Owen almost got a goal from a free-kick. Owen put the ball over the wall towards the top corner but Brass somehow got across goal to push the ball away.

As the game enter the later stages it became a physical battle with tough tackles and several yellow cards shown by the referee.

Caernarfon almost equalised as Sion Bradley took a shot at close range. Ashley Morris was able to react quickly and save.

Penybont made sure of the game in added time as Nathan Wood made it two. After good work out wide by Georgievsky he found Wood in the box and Wood fired low into the corner.
