Panteg manager Gareth Wilmott has announced that he is retiring from football due to family commitments.
Wilmott, who had agreed to manage the club nine months ago for a second spell, failed to take to the dugout after the 2020/21 season was curtailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wilmott also was previously the manager of Croesyceiliog’s reserve and senior teams before a spell at Panteg House.
The Ardal Leagues outfit will now require a new first-team manager with the 2021/22 season due to start in early July.
Announcing it on Twitter, he said: “I’ve made the decision to hang up my boots and tactical board and retire from football.
“The day was always going to come. It has been a tough 12 to 15 months for everyone during this pandemic. I am sure a lot of people will b busting to get back into football in the next few weeks.
“For me, it has gone the other way where I have loved giving all my time into my family life and my kids. By not having the commitment to football is something I’ve thoroughly enjoyed.”
He added: “Football is a massive commitment and I’ve always given 100% and more wherever I have been. I really don’t have that commitment and I don’t have the motivation to get back into it.
“Thank you to all the clubs I have been at both as a player and manager. Thank you to all the players who have played for me and who I have played with over the years.
“It has been a blast, I have made lifelong friends and some amazing memories on the pitch, in the dugout, and on many tours.”
