Wales U19 and U17 squads announced for May training camps

Wales have announced their U19 and U17 squads for May’s training camps, which include 21 domestic players across both squads.

Former Wales international Loren Dykes will lead both camps. Dykes will be hoping she can to pass on her wealth of knowledge to the next generation of Wales players.

The U19 squad see’s a total of six players Welsh Premier Women’s League players selected.

Cardiff City forward Pheobie Poole has been a standout performer in the Women’s Premier Welsh League this season.

Poole has been on fire this season for the Bluebirds notching 13 league goals, including a double at the Cardiff City Stadium.

She has also scored five league goals which takes her total for the season 18 across all competitions.

Those numbers are impressive for the most experienced of players but Poole is only 16 years old.

Grace Morris, Ffion Spence and Seren Watkins make up a trio of Cyncoed players to be included in the squad.

Jessie Taylor (Port Talbot) and Kate Young (Cardiff Met) and make up the six WPWL players called up.

Dykes has also selected players with senior team experience in her 28-player squad.

Bethan Roberts, Bethan McGowan and Maria Francis-Jones have all been involved with the senior team in the past 12 months.

This five day camp finish on May 14 as Wales prepare to return of age-grade international football.

The WPWL also has representation in the U17 squad.

Emily Roberts (Swansea City), Catrin Thomas (Briton Ferry), Maisie Miller (Port Talbot), Niamh Duggan (Aberystwyth) are all included in the 28-player squad.

The camp takes place from May 25 to May 28 and features several players who would have taken part in the WU17 EURO Elite Round had it not been cancelled.

Dykes will be assisted by Nicola Anderson and Jen Herst for the Wales U19 and Nia Davies and Pete Wilson for the U17.
