Cardiff Met 5-1 Aberystwyth Town: Hulbert brace inspires emphatic table-climbing victory

Cardiff Metropolitan overtook Aberystwyth Town with a comfortable 5-1 victory at Cyncoed Campus in the Play-Off Conference of the Cymru Premier.

Attacking duo Eliot Evans and Ollie Hulbert were among the goals, with defender Emlyn Lewis and winger Liam Warman sealing the victory in the second half.

Evans has now scored five in his last five games and Hulbert has six in his last four.

Met’s unbeaten run now equates to six games, the best run of form they’ve been in all season.

The hosts took the lead after seven minutes, as Matthew Chubb found space on the right-hand side before providing a ball to Evans at the back post. The attacker controlled the ball before comfortably finishing into the far corner.

Met came close to coiling misery minutes later, as Hulbert picked up a loose ball in the box before firing narrowly wide.

Owain Jones came close to drawing level as he capitalised on a defensive error by Emlyn Lewis, but his attempt was saved by Will Fuller.

Archers captain Bradley Woolridge missed a golden opportunity, heading over from close after losing his marker.

The lead was doubled as Chubb found space on the right again before finding Hulbert in the box. The latter created space with quick-feet before converting into the bottom corner with his left foot.

Hulbert came close to making it three just before half-time, but his volley was off target.

Met added their third when centre-half Emlyn Lewis scored with a deflected effort in the box.

Aber midfielder Harry Franklin failed to convert after being found at the back post.

Hulbert came close to doubling his tally for the evening with a volley, but it flew narrowly wide of the post.

Rhys Davies got on the end of a lopping cross, but his shot was saved at ease by Will Fuller.

Hulbert and Evans linked up to create a chance for the latter, but his attempt failed to test Connor Roberts.

Chubb came close to rounding off a great performance with a goal. He was played through by Liam Warman, but his effort went over.

Hulbert finally got his second of the game as he calmly converted from a one-on-one after being played through on goal.

Evans was denied of his brace by the woodwork, beating two defenders before smashing against the far post.

Matthew Jones grabbed a late consolation directly from a free-kick, but it was too little too late for Gavin Allen’s men.

The lead was extended further as substitute Warman converted after a brilliant solo run.
