Aeron Edwards reacts to title win with Connah’s Quay Nomads
Connahs Quay Nomads beat Penybont 2-0 to have back to back title wins in the Cymru Premier. The New Saints won their fixture against Bala Town but it wasn’t enough to grab the title.
After being a champion with TNS and now with Connah’s Quay Nomads, Aeron Edwards is now the most decorated player in Welsh Premier League history.
Edwards said: “Personally it’s great but it’s about the lads today, they have been fantastic all season. We’ve had to deal with injuries, a lot of injuries in fact it’s that kind of season
“I’m so happy on a personal level at a very difficult time, I’m really really happy.
Following Edwards’ move to the Connah’s Quay this season it is the second time The New Saints have been behind and lost the title to Andy Morrisons’ side.
This has seen the days of The New Saints dominating the league to now a much more competitive league with the Nomads winning it back-to-back seasons.
“They won it last year when I was playing for TNS. For me there were a lot of questions on me moving, moving teams and why have you done that as TNS have a bigger budget.
“For us to win the league when they have had a really good season as well it just shows what we got in our squad.
“TNS always used to run away with it with point margins of 15 to 20 points but we’ve closed that gap and to win this it’s incredible.
This season was different to the previous season due to not being given the title via a points per game system.
There shouldn’t be any complaints for TNS with the title win coming from hard work and consistency from their rivals.
Experienced players at the club such as Michael Wilde, Danny Harrison and George Horan have helped the Nomads continue their success this season.
“It’s great I’ve played with Wilde for a long time, he’s been unplayable at time this season. All the lads George, Danny Harrison.
“There is so much experience but also the young lads you have to give them the credit they have stepped up this year and been magnificent on every part of the pitch.
“I didn’t move to just sit back on my career, I moved because I felt it was the right move at the time, I knew what it was like in the changing room and it has shown with the league win this season. I am proud of the lads and how they played today.
“I’m going to enjoy my time off first as games have been Saturday and Tuesdays and that has had an impact on my body. Of course, everyone will be looking forward to those games there the kind of games you want to play.”
And on the absence of fans? “It’s been a tough time for them, it’s their release to come to the games on the weekend and they haven’t been able to do it.
‘You have to give credit to the staff and the stewards they are still doing their jobs and massive credit to them.”
