Andy Morrison coy on Nomads future after second title success

Andy Morrison has revealed that he will hold talks with Connah’s Quay hierarchy next week about his future.

Morrison led the Nomads to a second consecutive Cymru Premier title after they defeated Penybont 2-0 at the SDM Glass Stadium.

In the aftermath of their success, Morrison was asked about the upcoming Champions League campaign, a prize as a result of their league win.

However, Morrison who has been at the helm for six years instead took the question into an answer about his future.

He said that he will meet with benefactor Gary Dewhurst on his and the club’s next steps in what has been a trophy-laden tenure for the Manchester City legend.

“I’m going to speak to my chairman this week,” revealed Morrison to S4C’s Sgorio.

It has been a long six years. I have had nine years in the Cymru Premier and nine European campaigns.

“If I stay then that is two weeks and then we are back in training again. I’m tired, my voice is tired and my vocal cords are tired.

“I will speak to my chairman this week and see where we go from there. It has been a fantastic journey, we retained the title and we will see where we go from there.”

In a separate interview with Y Clwb Pêl-droed, he said: “It is not about my demands. It is about what is best for the football club. To challenge The New Saints, you need hunger and passion. You need to go the extra length to find a way to overcome them.

“They are financially massively ahead of us. With the infrastructure in place, you need drive and that has to be relentless.

“I have done it for many years now. I’ll sit down and speak with the chairman this week and we will see where we go.”

Since joining the Nomads in 2015, Morrison has guided them to European football in each season he has been at the helm.

The Manchester City legend has also won the Nathaniel MG Cup and the Welsh Cup, as well as reaching the final of the Scottish Challenge Cup.

Reflecting on his latest triumph Morrison said: “It has been incredible. We have back-to-back titles. Everybody wrote us off at the start of the season.

“They said TNS will show their true colours. We have gone to another level this year. We have been absolutely relentless and absolutely magnificent.”

“I asked the players to show what a good team they were last year, and how we were justified in getting it last year, we were taunted many times by TNS as plastic champions.”

“Well, you know, we’ve just shown the day that through the real champions are

Expressing a mutual respect for the New Saints stalwarts Scott Ruscoe and Stevens in his post-match celebrations, Morrison revealed that he raised his level, even more, to retain the title out of respect for the pair.

Ruscoe, who had been Morrison’s nemesis for two seasons and a half was dismissed by their title chargers in March.

He was replaced by former Woking boss Anthony Limbrick, who could have won the league title in his first ten matches in charge.

“I spent most of the season competing with Scott Ruscoe and Steve Evans and listen, we don’t exchange Christmas cards that is for sure.

“We do however have mutual respect in football terms. I thought it was really important that I raised the game when they changed it.

“I owed it to them that we stayed out ahead and we have done.”
