Wales International Brennan Johnson scoops Young Player of the Year award
Lincoln City’s Brennan Johnson has won the club’s Young Player of the Year award following an impressive debut campaign in senior football.
Johnson, who joined the Imps on a season-long loan from Championship outfit Nottingham Forest, has dazzled at the LNER Stadium with an outlay of 10 goals and 12 assists.
The Forest academy product has been deployed in a variety of positions for his side- he has spent most of his time on either wing, though he has also performed in attacking midfield and centre forward.
As such, the loanee’s form was paramount to Lincoln achieving a shock playoff place, eventually finishing 5th after being in contention for automatic promotion for much of the campaign.
And, if the Imps are go up, the 19-year old will have a big part to play. This Wednesday, they host Sunderland in the playoff semi final, before travelling to the North East for the second leg next weekend.
Johnson will be hoping that his stellar season has done enough to seal a place in Wales’ upcoming EURO 2020 squad, with the announcement for that imminent. Johnson’s form was rewarded with a first call-up in November, where he made his debut against USA as a second-half substitute.
Meanwhile, it is widely known that he is held in a rich vein back in the East Midlands, and many believe that he will be an integral part of Chris Hughton’s plans ahead of the 2021/22 campaign. However, due to his performances in the third tier, his stock has ascended massively.
Premier League high-flyers Leeds United are said to be monitoring the Welsh International’s progress, whereas Burnley and Brentford have also been linked in recent months.
