Women’s Football Restructure: Cascade issue statement following demotion from Welsh Premier Women’s League
Cascade Youth Club have made clear their disappointment with the decision to demote the club from the Welsh Premier Women’s League.
The Football Association of Wales today announced a restructuring of the league, which sees Cascade placed in Tier 2 South.
“We at Cascade YC are extremely disappointed at today’s announcement that our ladies team will not be given a place in Tier 1 for the 21/22 season,” the statement read.
“Throughout the recent unprecedented times, out ladies team have worn the Cascade YC badge with pride.
“Through a very difficult season we worked hard to gain our Tier 1 license.
“We put in a number of developmental areas and agreements to use elite facilities to allow us to to facilitate the growth and development of Women and Girls football in Caerphilly and surrounding Areas.
“Unfortunately this has not been enough to retain our place in the league.”
The restructure sees The New Saints and Barry Town United admitted to Tier 1, with previous Welsh Premier Women’s League sides Abergavenny and Briton Ferry Llansawel joining Cascade in the second tier.
“To play at the top level must always come down to sporting merit,” the statement continued.
“We would like to thank the WPWL teams who supported and encouraged us through out first season at this level.
“We applaud you all on ensuring all matched went ahead safely for player and staff during a global pandemic.”
The decision means Cascade’s one-year stay in the top-flight will come to an end, after the team were promoted from the Welsh Women’s League last season.
They finished eighth in the table on seven points, two points above bottom-placed Aberystwyth Town.
Their finest moment of the season was recording two wins in three days, beating Aberystwyth and Briton Ferry Llansawel.
