Midfielder Jonny Williams is to depart Cardiff City after less than six months at the Championship club.
The 27-year-old, who joined the Bluebirds for an undisclosed fee in February, had initially penned a six-month contract with an option to extend the deal.
Williams found first-team opportunities hard to come by and made just nine appearances after moving from Charlton Athletic in February.
Despite his lack of match action, he was most recently named in Wales’ 26-man squad for EURO 2020, meaning any action in the tournament will now be an opportunity to earn a contract at a new club.
His departure from Cardiff however comes as a shock, as in May, manager Mick McCarthy talked up how Williams could be the ‘perfect replacement’ for the departing Harry Wilson after his loan spell at the club expired.
In a club statement, Cardiff City said: “Our departing Bluebirds will always be welcome here at Cardiff City Stadium and we wish them all the very best for the future.”
