David Cotterill announces he is departing Barry Town United
Midfielder David Cotterill has announced that he has decided to depart Barry Town United.
The 33-year-old is moving on from Jenner Park after a season-and-a-half of playing in the Cymru Premier with the Linnets.
Cotterill, made 27 appearances for Barry this season, scoring five goals as he helped his side to a top six finish.
He joined in January 2020 after a two-year exile from football, making two appearances in the 2019/20 campaign before it was curtailed.
His last appearance in a Barry shirt came in the 3-1 play-off semi-final defeat to Caernarfon Town, as the club failed to qualify for Europe for the first time in two seasons.
In a short statement on Twitter, Cotterill said: “A decision has been made to leave Barry Town United. I want to thank my teammates and everyone connected to the club.
“I will see what the future holds who knows these legs still got a bit of life left in them.”
Barry responded to Cotterill’s parting message by saying: “Good luck David Cotterill, we wish you all the best in the future. Thank you.”
Clayton Green meanwhile has committed his future to the club, signing up to a further season.
Green, who joined from Carmarthen Town in 2018, has made 80 appearances for the club.
Gavin Chesterfield said: “I’m delighted to see Clayton extend his stay with us.
“He’s proven throughout his time at the club that he’s a central part of our group and brings much to the club, both on and off the field.”
