FC United of Wrexham 0-29 Cefn Druids: Ancients trounce Wrexham in Elite League opener

Cefn Druids emphatically defeated FC United of Wrexham 29-0 in their FAW Elite Futsal League opening match at the House of Sport.

Jacob Wise, a defender for the Ancients’ Cymru Premier team, netted eight goals, meanwhile Wales international Connor Rogers scored seven. Brothers Craig and Louis Pritchard also found the net, as well as Joe Saunders, Matty Best, and Matty Williams.

Richie Jones’ side scored an impressive 21 goals in the first-half before adding a further eight in the second twenty minutes.

The thrashing was the highest recorded margin of victory in the four matches played so far, with FTSL’s 11-0 victory over USW, the only other match to reach double figures.

Wrexham almost surprised the Druids as both David Hughes and Kieron Capper drew saves out of the goalkeeper.

In a frantic minute, Druids scored four goals without reply. Wise quickly earned his hat-trick with Rogers also on the mark.

Further goals came as Wise expertly finished, impressing on his debut for the Wrexham club. Best jumped in on the scoring action with a nicely made corner-kick routine.

Wrexham were rattled and forced into long-range shooting with goalkeeper Adam Bryan and Aston Jones both wayward in their efforts.

Matty Waller was showing neat feet for his side but continued to be denied by Bryan.

After a brief period of not finding the net, Rogers and Wise continued to link up well to net further goals. 

Craig Pritchard then broke the Ancients into double figures with a delightful chip over the keeper. 

Pritchard then linked up with younger brother Louis for his first goal of the game, before immediately adding a second with a powerful finish.

Williams joined in on the scoring fun with a delightful chip. An accumulation of fouls resulted in a number of free shots for the Druids which Rogers duly delivered on. 

A rare chance before the break saw denied twice with firstly his shot being saved and then having a header cleared off the line.

With an impressive 21 goals without reply, the second-half began at a lower intensity and it took time before they were on the mark again.

Best however was back amongst it to score his third, meanwhile Saunders nut-megged the keeper for another.

Rogers and Wise added even more but then there was another rare opportunity for Wrexham with Rhys McDermott forcing a save. 

All of the Druids then encouraged Waller to score in the dying embers of the game however a goal alluded him in a free-scoring afternoon for his side. Waller however did impress and was tidy with his play.

Druids will now face their development side PF Cymru tomorrow morning, before facing off against Luso Cymru, in a clash that will likely the Northern winner.
