Cardiff Met star Chloe O’Connor seals move to Bristol City Women

Bristol City Women have announced the signing of Welsh Premier Women’s League star Chloe O’Connor.

The playmaker, 26, earns the move having had a stellar campaign with Cardiff Metropolitan University, in which she finished the league’s top scorer with 15 goals.

O’Connor started out at Welsh Premier Women’s League champions Swansea City, but also had a spell at Cardiff City Women in 2018.

Over her two spells at Cardiff Metropolitan, the talented midfielder won three titles, as well as two Welsh Women’s Cups.

O’Connor’s influential performances in the 2020-2021 came after a difficult period in which she overcame a benign tumour on her spine and rehabilitation during the pandemic.

Commenting on signing for the Robins, O’Connor said: “Bristol City Women is a club steeped in history in the women’s game and I’m excited for the next challenge in my career.

“The Robins High Performance Centre will be a fantastic venue to play at week-in, week-out and after speaking at length with Lauren (Smith) I’m looking forward to seeing how I develop my game under her this season.

“The Championship is a competitive league with some quality teams and players, which I’m excited to test myself against.”

Head Coach Lauren Smith also expressed her delight at capturing the signing of the Welsh Premier Women’s League star.

“Throughout her young career Chloe has shown that she is a fighter, she has faced adversity and battled through to return to the pitch and show what she is capable of.

“She was a real driving force behind Cardiff Met’s performances last season with her creativity and ability on the ball, which really excites me as a coach.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how Chloe develops over the upcoming season.”
